SURCHARGE: In lieu of an admission or a program fee there is a mandatory surcharge of $15.00 per family.
MUSIC: Contest practice music for modeling and twirling can be found on website.
Individual team, corps, show twirl and rhythmic information:

CD player will be available.
We also have Spotify and could pull your music but highly suggest you contact the contest director prior to the competition day to ensure that the musical arrangement is the same.
BRING BACK UP MUSIC DAY OF COMPETITION
AGE DIVISION: 0-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16+ w/ the exception of Miss KY Derby Majorette & Derby Hat Model.
Contest Director reserves the right to divide or combine age groups as the entries warrant. Athletes will compete at the
age they were on 9/1/2022.
MISCELLANEOUS:
No changes will be allowed except advances or withdrawals because of wins. These changes must be submitted to contest director no later than midnight April 25, 2023, via email at kentuckytwirlingconsortium@gmail.com
NBTA Rules, Judges & Score Sheets will be used except for non-sanctioned events.
Only Competitors and coaches will be allowed on the competition area.
Contest Director or host facility will not be responsible for injuries or lost/stolen items.
No smoking in the facility.
No flash photography is allowed.
Twirl for the Roses
Open Competition
TWIRL FOR THE ROSES HIGH-POINT MEMORIAL AWARD:
It is with great honor to announce the first annual Twirl for the Roses High-Point Memorial Award. This award pays homage to my eldest daughter, Heather Byrdwell, who passed away December 9, 2022. Heather was an athlete in her own right, was loyal to her stewardship of athleticism, and encouraged others to pursue their goals with vigor and passion.
Twirlers will collect crystal rose awards throughout the competition day for each 1st – 3rd place in qualifying events and whomever has the highest point total will receive the title Twirler of the Roses 2023 and be awarded the High-Point Memorial Award, a garland or bouquet of roses and a scholarship which can be used to offset the cost of baton twirling. Scholarship amount will be no less than $50.
1st place = 3 points 2nd place = 2 points 3rd place = 1 point
DRESS MODEL:
NO interview. Little & Juvenile model in party dress; Preteen in party dress or formal; Junior, Teenage, & College model in semi-formal or formal dress. Novice, Beginner, and Intermediate contestants are encouraged to wear Sunday best or Party type dresses rather than investing in expensive formal dresses. Contestants will not be penalized for wearing non-formal wear if dresses are appropriate for age, neat and clean.
MISS KENTUCKY DERBY MAJORETTE:
Contestants will compete in Modeling, Parade March, and Showcase Presentation. The goal of this event is to showcase the KY Derby Pegasus Parade. Contestants will be filmed/video for submission to the Derby Festival for future application for participation in the annual KY Derby Pegasus Parade. Per NBTA PART 4 - RULES REGARDING STATUS LEVELS; E. WHEN MULTI-STATUS LEVELS ARE NOT AVAILABLE – Winning first place in a contest that does not provide multi-levels (Nov-Beg-Inter-Adv.) shall be counted only toward a contestant’s current NBTA status level. Therefore, contestants do not have to worry about advancing status when participating in this event as there are no multi-status levels available.
Modeling in casual wear that reflects Derby Day attire. (See helpful hints on website)
Parade March is performed in a square. Contestants must perform 4 basic march steps in a left, right pattern at the beginning of each leg while staying in-step. Contestant’s routines should be entertaining to the general public watching a parade from the sidelines. Kicks, leaps, and other forward moving dance steps such as step-ball-change are permitted. However, NO gymnastics, illusions or spins are allowed. Baton may be used in any pattern of twirling. Penalty of .5 for each drop and non-execution of mandatory 4 count basic march at the beginning of each leg. Routine will be performed to standard marching music. Hint: use part of your strut routine but put in a square format
Showcase Presentation: Contestants are to execute a 30 second presentation showcasing their twirling ability that they would use during a natural lull or stop during a parade. No gymnastics are allowed. Penalty of .5 for each drop and .1/second overtime.Hint: use 30 seconds of your solo routing.
DERBY HAT MODEL:
Contestants will model their Derby Hat in any fashion you please. No interview. Judges will be looking for The Most Classical Derby Hat, The Funniest Derby Hat, and The Most Unique Derby Hat. This is a non-sanctioned event. Men are welcome to enter this event, too.
KY Miss Majorette/Pageants and State Events
KENTUCKY NOVICE SKILLS PAGEANT:
Open to Kentucky residents only. Contestants will compete in Costume Modeling (20%), Basic March (40%), and Solo (40%). No interview. See NBTA for further details. Link located on website. Solo determines division status.
KENTUCKY BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE PAGEANT:
Open to Kentucky residents only. Contestants will compete in Costume Modeling w/interview (20%), Strut (40%), and Solo (40%). Solo determines division status. First place winners are eligible to enter the Official Beginner & Intermediate Pageants at AYOP held at Notre Dame University in July 2023. MISS MAJORETTE OF KENTUCKY PAGEANT:
Dress Modeling w/interview (20%), Strut (40%), and Solo (40%). Solo determines division status. Little & Juvenile model in party dress; Preteen in party dress or formal; Junior, Teenage, & College model in semi-formal or formal dress. First – Third place winners are eligible to enter the Official Beginner & Intermediate Pageants at AYOP held at Notre Dame University in July 2023. STATE EVENTS:
Open to Kentucky residents only.
Top 8 Advance twirlers qualify for National Competition at AYOP.
Perpetual Awards for all Advance State events except State Duets.
State events are open only to contestants who resided in the state of Kentucky or attend college in the state of Kentucky.
